How paying a Chinese supplier works

  1. Tell the desk what you're paying. The amount, whether your supplier wants CNY or USD, and their bank details.

  2. Agree your rate. The desk quotes a firm rate for the full amount, held for one hour.

  3. Fund the payment in naira.

  4. Your supplier is paid into their bank account in China, the same day for CNY payments confirmed before the cut-off.

What you need from your Chinese supplier

  • Their full legal company name, exactly as registered with their bank (often in both Chinese and English)
  • Their bank account number
  • Their bank's name, branch and SWIFT/BIC code
  • Whether they want to be paid in CNY or USD
  • The proforma or commercial invoice you are paying

Check that the company name on the bank details matches the name on the invoice and your contract. A request to pay a personal account or a third party's account is a common sign of fraud.

Common questions

How long does a payment to China take with Oneremit?

Payments to China settle the same day. For CNY payments, the typical same-day cut-off is 16:00–17:00 Beijing time, which is 09:00–10:00 in Lagos.

Can I pay my Chinese supplier in yuan or dollars?

Both. Oneremit makes local CNY payments to accounts in China and also pays in USD.

Is there a minimum amount?

The OTC desk handles payments from USD 500,000, with no maximum. Smaller payments can also be considered: tell us the amount and we'll confirm.

Are there hidden fees?

No. All fees are shown upfront before you confirm a payment.

What documents do I need?

Your company's incorporation documents, plus documentation supporting the specific transaction. The desk confirms exactly what is needed before you send.

How do I know my supplier's bank details are genuine?

Confirm the account details with your supplier on a phone or video call, not only by email, especially if the details have changed. Fraudsters often send "updated bank details" from look-alike email addresses.
